Assessing Risk To Your Property, Enhancing Security

We are often asked to review the risk to private or commercial assets for a variety of reasons.  These extend from an insurance prerequisite through to a new direct threat.

The survey must be bespoke, as well as tailored to the client, location and risks.  Some of the topics should include:

  • The physical assessment, along with suitable suggestions for improvement,

  • Everything from perimeter, access to passive surveillance and detection

  • Response from local authorities

  • Never underestimate the devastating impact of flood or fire

  • Staff training

  • Disaster response training with family/staff/security teams

A Recent Case Study

Recently we were asked to consider implementing a security team at a bonded warehouse in the UK.   The only way to professionally deliver this service over a prolonged period of time in a cost effective way for the client was to strip the site to its bare bones.  In terms of scale, this is at least 2 days work for a team of 2 people from our office to assess, consider and report on a site of this size (50,000 sqft) with over £50m in stock.

Understanding and developing relationship and working practices with existing on site staff is also very important as ultimately the client’s agents must be able to carry on with “business as usual”.  A period of understanding, amending and training will often facilitate this with ease.
